Stockton U11 v Richmond U11 Match Report

Richmond U11s long winning run came to an end in a game against their closest rivals in the league, Stockton.

Having won the toss Richmond elected to bowl first against what turned out to be a very well organised and capable Stockton team.  Richmond only managed to take one wicket in the innings when George Spink bowled one of Stockton's second pair.  A couple of opporutnities were missed in the field to take further wickets in what turned out to be Richmond's worst fielding and bowling performance of the season.  The main contributory factor to the defeat was the amount of wides that were bowled - 18 in total gifting Stockton 36 runs and allowing them to post a net score of 266 runs.  The only bowler to come out with real credit was Jordan Forbes who bowled his normal tight spell of 3 overs for 5 runs.

Whilst it would be a challening total for Richmond to get, with sensible batting it was still achievable.  After a steady start Richmond started to slip behind the run rate and with the pressure this built, alongside some good tight bowling, wickets started to fall.   Five wickets were lost in total and despite a late flurry from the last pair of batters, Matty Price hitting 25 runs, Richmond fell well short with a final net score of 230 runs to lose by 36 runs (ironically the same number of runs given away by wides).

This has been a fantastic run by the U11 team, 13 consecutive wins in total, and credit to everyone who has played their part in it, but the run was always going come to an end at some point.  The crucial thing will now be to see how they bounce back in the last 3 league games and cup final that are to come.
