Norton U11 v Richmond U11

Cup Semi Final Match Report

Richmond travelled to Norton for their cup semi final on Wednesday evening having finished second in their group.  With home advanatge it was expected Norton would prove a tough test for Richmond's U11s.  Norton won the toss and decided to bowl first.

The opening pair for Richmond were Sam Winter and Toby Newton and they quickly set about the Norton bowling with some high quality shots.  Sam was particularly aggressive and at the end of the first four overs Richmond had totalled 48 runs with no dismissals, with Sam Winter totalling 41 runs an amazing effort with 7 fours and a six.  The next pair, Tom Dowson and Ryan Goldsmith, kept the momentum going with some good shots and running between the wickets and were also helped by a few wide deliveries.  With the second pair totalling 36 runs, Richmond had a fantastic 84 runs after the first 8 overs.  There was no let up from Jordan Forbes and Harvey Websdale with another 28 runs added and although the first wicket was lost the score after three pairs had topped 300.  The last pair, George Spink and James Kelly, also managed a few boundaries although James was out twice meaning Richmond's net score was 306, the best of the season and a great batting performance with a total of 15 boundaries and 1 six.

It was going to take a big effort from Norton to get close to the score and after Jordan Forbes had taken three wickets in his first over the chase was already all over.  As with the batting everyone bowled well and all the bowlers were backed up by some excellent fielding.  Particular credit in the field goes to Tom Dowson with some excellent wicket keeping including two stumpings, a run out and a catch.  Bowling honours were shared between Ryan Goldsmith with 4 wickets for 3 runs and Jordan Forbes with 3 wickets for 5 runs.  Norton lost 9 wickets in total and with a net score of 185 runs were beaten by 121 runs.

A really special performance by the U11s with everyone excellent with the bat, ball and in the field.  This means a final against Darlington at a date to be arranged.  Well done to all the boys who played tonight and the squad as a whole on reaching the final.
