Richmond U11 v Wolviston U11 Match Report

Richmond U11s again managed to dodge the weather and complete another win away at Wolviston, thanks to a good all round team performance.

Batting first Richmond got off to the worst possible start with James Kelly's big swing and miss to the first ball of the game resulting in him being bowled.  From then on he did recover well and with his partner Johnny Carr managed to add 26 runs.  Throughout the rest of the innings the pattern was good sensible batting with everyone making a contribution with Tom Spensley playing particularly well.  Richmond ended on 285 for the loss of 2 wickets, giving a net score of 269.

Not long after Richmond set off fielding the all too familiar rain started to fall.  This made the ball particularly difficult to grip and the day was only saved by James Kelly's ball drying skills after almost every ball.  However everyone stuck to the task and with Jack Smith and Jonathan Carlton particularly bowling well Wolviston found run scoring difficult, so much so that they failed to find the boundary in the whole 16 overs.  They were saved by the number of extras, an inevitability with the soap like ball, and finally ended up with 268 for the loss of 4 wickets and a net score of 236, giving Richmond victory by 33 runs.

This made it ten consecutive wins which is a fantastic achievement from a very talented group of young cricketers.  It doesnt seem to matter which of the squad are selected they all come in and make a positive contribution.
