Richmond U11 v Barnard Castle U11

Another exciting game of junior cricket at Gilling on Monday night.

Barnard Castle won the toss and decided to bowl.  Richmond batted pretty well all the way through the innings and a combination of some good attacking shots and a fast outfield allowed them to build up a good score.  Particular credit goes to Jonathan Carlton and Jordan Forbes who batted well as second pair scoring 26 runs with no wickets.  Tom Spensley also kept up his recent good form with 17 runs although he was dismissed once.  A late flourish and some good running from the last pair, George Spink and Toby Newton, meant Richmond passed 300 runs, finally finishing on 309 runs for the loss of four wickets giving them a decent 277 runs net.

When Barnard Castle batted Richmond kept it very tight early on with James Kelly and Jonathan Carlton only leaking 3 runs in the first 4 overs and with James taking two wickets in his second over Richmond were well on top.  However after that early burst Richmond only took one more wicket, through Jordan Forbes, despite creating plenty of chances including Tom Spensley juggling a catch for what seemed like ages before eventually dropping the chance.  Barnard Castle grew in confidence a little and started to find a few boundaries, however when the last pair came to the wicket they still required an unlikely 68 runs to win.  For once this season the under 11's came under pressure from two very good batsmen and a combination of some wayward bowling and high quality shots meant the runs flowed.  However Richmond had enough in hand and despite a fantastic 41 runs coming from the last pair Barnard Castle came up 27 runs short.

Another good game with some really good cricketing skills on show from both sides.

Richmond have another home game against Hartlepool tonight when they hope to keep their long winning run going.
