U13 D&D v Middleton, Match Report

The DandD U13s have reason to be grateful that Gilling groundsman John Deighton got up early on a Sunday morning with a bit of a hangover to prepare the pitch. No more rain had fallen overnight and the rather cold breeze had dried out the top surface.

Middleton were put into bat. Their early batsmen managed little off the bat but some rusty bowlers gave them a few extras. The second two pairs were rather more confident, with each of them hitting a four. The final Middleton score was 75 for 5, 250 net, a decent score. Charlie, Luke, Adam and Liam each took a wicket and Ted got a run out with a direct hit.

Ted and Luke opened the Richmondshire innings. Ted batted with a previously unseen mixture of power and control, hitting the first two balls for four and then reaching the boundary three more times as he scored 24 out of an unbeaten partnership of 31. Charlie and Liam middled the ball several times as they lifted the core to 55 for 1, Liam being unlucky to be run out by a direct hit when going for a quick single. Adam and Matthew put on 17, Matthew hitting two fours, each of them being dismissed once. Top U12 hitter James Metcalfe came in as finisher with late U11 replacement Harvey. Harvey was unlucky to be caught from a very clean strike, James again made double figures. The final score was 89 for 4, leaving Richmondshire on 269 net, a win by 19 runs.
