U11 Match - Richmond v Newton Aycliffe

With the Newton Aycliffe pitch unfit and Gilling suffering the same fate the game was switched to Richmond CC, giving the U11s a rare chance to play on the Club's main ground.

Johnny Carr won the toss and decide to bowl first.  Newton Aycliffe's first few batsmen played it safe against good tight Richmond bowling and did not lose a wicket until Ryan Goldsmith struck twice in two balls in the eight over.  Jack Smith and Kyle Galloway then carried on the good work with four tight overs including a wicket maiden from Jack.  With their net score standing at only 206 when the last pair came in Richmond were well on top.  However the last pair for Newton Aycliffe batted well and ran superbly between the wickets in adding 37 runs with Richmond becoming a little ragged in the field trying to stop the runs.  Newton Aycliffe therefore ended with a net score of 243 runs.

Richmond's reply got off to the worst possible start with captain Johnny Carr caught in the first over, however Johnny with his opening partner Tom Dowson then got on top of the bowling getting a useful opening partnership of net 20 runs.  Tom Spensley, Ryan Goldsmith, Kyle Galloway and Jack Smith then batted sensibly in the middle of the innings against an inexperienced bowling team and when the last pair arrived at the crease Richmond were already 16 runs ahead. However if there was any thought that Richmond would simply block and protect their lead the message hadnt got to the two batsmaen.  Instead the last four overs, with James Kelly and George Spink at the crease, were packed with excitement.  In total 48 runs were added with some great shots, however also three wickets fell and the crowd were fully entertained with the highlight being the umpire diving for cover to avoid being hit between the eyes from one of George's drives.

In the end Richmond totalled a net score of 277 runs and kept their winning run going by 34 runs.
