under 13s Richmond vs Darlington Monday 20th June

Score: Richmond 250 (295/9), Darlington 251 (286/7)
Team:First pair Sam Winter, Alex Rowe; second pair: Dan Winter, David Russel; third pair:Tom Joashi, Charlie Bond; Final pair: Joe Shields (captain), Finnis Barlow (Wicketkeeper)
We played 20 overs per innings at Gilling West under reasonable conditions starting off warm and sunny, ending with rain and failing light.
The teams were evenly matched which led to a very exciting game down to the last ball.
Richmond batted first, Sam got us off to a good start 17/1 followed by some strong batting by his brother Dan who hit the boundary three times, he scored 15/1, Charlie Bond played his first match this season he managed to hit the boundary once ending on 11/2, Darlington had some fast accurate bowlers and by the end of the third pair the score was 261/7 (226 net). Joe and Finnis did well and boosted the score without losing a wicket between them, Joe got 17 runs hitting the boundary three times and Finnis 8 runs. Richmond scored 295/9, 250 net
After drinks and biscuits, Joe got his team organised, he opened the bowling to be faced by a strong Batsman, W. Heathcote who hit the boundary on his first bat. By the end of the first pair the score was 224/0 and it looked like we were going to be given a thrashing. We got our first wicket in the sixth over, bowled by Tom Joashi and stumped by Finnis, who continued to demonstrate his quick reflexes throughout the rest of the match. Richmond dominated the match for the next 8 overs with maiden overs bowled by Alex Rowe followed by Tom Joashi, David then hit the stump, followed by two easy catches for Joe, Charlie hit the stump then David took a diving catch, and by the end of the 15th over, Darlington were on 247/6 (217 net)
Predictably Darlington saved their best batsmen (L Horner and Josh Dowson) til last they were chasing 34/5, Richmond kept the score down by some excellent fielding and wicket keeping, Sam Winter bowled a wicket at a critical moment in the 18th over bringing the score down to 266/7 (231 net) Darlington needed 20 runs off two overs to win. In the 19th over they got 12 runs(the highest scoring over of the match). It was a nailbiting final over, Dan kept his cool bowling, but Josh Dowson proved too experienced and hit the boundary on his last ball winning the match for Darlington.
Thanks lads for such an entertaining match, it was difficult to choose a man of the match as all boys contributed in a positive way. I've chosen Finnis Barlow because he kept the Darlington score down with his wicket keeping and the umpires on their toes replacing the bails!

Thanks to Andy Barlow for umpiring ,Leslie Rowe for scoring, Tracey and Christine for refreshments
