U11 Match Report, v Marton

Last year's undefeated champions, Marton, defeated our U11 side, whose 63-6 was a spirited response to Marton's score of 93-0.

Richmondshire chose to field first and were well organised in the field. Our bowling was tidy, without being threatening, some of it too short. Toby Lush saved a number of runs with some excellent outfielding, but Marton carefully kept their wickets intact, offering only one catch in the deep.

When it came to our turn to bat, we started brightly, with James Kelly and Matthew Price both hitting good boundaries; unfortunately James ran Matthew out, calling him for a run that wasn't there. However, the early momentum wasn't maintained, as Marton's spinners and left arm pace bowler put our batsmen under pressure. The pressure resulted in two soft caught and bowled dismissals, another run out, as well as two bowled dismissals for the pace man.

This was probably our hardest fixture, against opponents both talented and well organised, there are plenty of positives to take into next week's fixture against Northallerton.

Things to practise: running between the wickets, defensive batting strokes, bowling the correct length with a hard ball on a full length pitch.
